The scenic trails of Sudbury

This area offers a snowmobiler some of the most diverse and scenic trails in Ontario. The district has some 2400 km of trails and a snowmobiler can ride loops every day for more than a week and never have to ride the same trail twice. The riding consists of old rail lines, bush roads, bush trails and even pipe and hydro lines, so one will never get bored with the same old type of riding.

Parts of the district trails traverse the LaCloche scenic mountains, as well this area is a part of the Laurentains, all combining to make your snowmobile experience, an unforgettable, breathtaking scenic ride. Streams, lakes and rivers abound and make for great photo opportunities of half frozen rushing rivers in a winter wonderland. There are many scenic areas like Wolf Mountain. from where panoramic vistas open up for viewing or a backdrop for a photo.

On almost every day of your tour you will encounter some sort of wildlife ranging from large to small animals and birds. It is common to see moose, deer, elk, rabbit, or even a bobcat on the trail.

The district is taken care of by 13 local clubs and their volunteers. Through their hardwork and dedication, they sign and brush trails, stake lakes, install and maintain bridges. The area has centralized grooming of trails to near perfection by a fleet of groomer operators. Lodges, motels and restaurants dot the trails (the Sportsman’s Lodge, Windy Lake Motel, Rockies Chateau Guay, The Falcon, Pine Falls etc) and the hosts are very snowmobiler friendly, always willing to help out locals or visitors to the area.

The area is also located centrally in the province and like the hub on a wheel open to day tours to other districts or areas, great for kicking off multiple day saddlebag tours. The Sudbury Trail Plan office is centrally located and staffed 5 days a week with a friendly and curtious staff always ready and willing to assist with trail passes, trail maps, directions, touring suggestions or trail advice.

Sudbury is a diverse city in the heart of the snow belt and as such offers great shopping with all major stores, good entertainment for long winter evenings, many fine restaurants offering a variety of cuisine from the simple take out to fine dining. The city also sports snowmobile dealerships for every brand of snowmobile offering parts, service or even friendly advice. The area is home to many large hotels and motels, which although not all on the trail allow free parking for trailers and the area has many areas that can be used for staging day trips.
