Fall in Love with the Sault

Waterfalls are fantastic places for hiking, photography, or to just get away from it all. There are hundreds of waterfalls within Ontario. Magpie Falls, Crystal Falls and Chippewa Falls are all beautiful and memorable locations that are just waiting to be discovered.

Magpie Falls

More than 20,000 visitors come to see these beautiful falls each year. This is one of Wawa’s most noted natural attractions; each spring the 75 ft. vertical drop explodes with water. It’s an awesome scene, but rain gear may be needed in order to get close! A captivating place for the family to get out for a hike, visiting this falls could easily fill an hour or two. Located right along the Trans-Canada Highway, the main waterfall is easily accessible and is a popular rest spot for travelers.

Crystal Falls

Located just beyond the border of Sault Ste. Marie, this is an attractive waterfall that’s easy to visit even for the non-adventurer; you can drive almost to the base of the falls. A sturdy boardwalk and wooden staircase have been constructed beside and above this waterfall. Crystal Falls is a part of Crystal Creek located in Hiawatha Highlands Park, also known as Kinsmen Park. The waterfall is about 50 feet high, and falls at roughly a 45 degree angle. There is a bridge at the top of the waterfall that is part of the Voyageur Trail. A few hundred yards downstream of the falls is a small lake that was created by a dam built on top of Minnehaha Falls, a second fall on Crystal Creek. Below the lake the creek enters into a narrow gorge which has at least three drops each around 10 feet high.

Chippewa Falls

A captivating place for the family to get out for a hike! Visiting this falls could easily fill an hour or two. This is a complicated falls consisting of several drops; located approximately at the half way point of the Trans-Canada Highway, which runs between St John’s in Newfoundland and Victoria in British Columbia. The main waterfall is easily accessible and is a popular rest spot for travelers. There is a roadside park and you can walk up either side of the falls, and climb on the rocks.
